At our AGM in March 2026, the sub Branch decided to sponsor the Terry Campese Foundation Youth Mentor Program - Crookwell. This is a program designed for young people who want to become a better version of themselves.
For 16 weeks the local mentors - Simon and Nioka Bill work with program participants to develop their mental and physical fitness in the lead up to an incredible final experience. The group travelled to the island of Savari’i Samoa, in July to build a turfed playground for the local children and undertake much needed maintenance at the school in the village of Asua which included delivering supplies of books and computers.
The program helps participants to develop and enhance skills in teamwork, interpersonal communications, personal management and leadership. As the Crookwell youth do not have access to a Cadet Unit, the sub Branch felt that this program provides similar personal growth and development as the Cadet programs and was worthy of our sponsorship. Simon Bill is both a veteran and son of a veteran, and in 2026 one of the participants is the child of a veteran.
As part of the program’s community service element, the participants served the Anzac Day Lunch to the sub Branch members and guests, under the watchful and supportive eyes of their mentors.
Our Major fundraising effort saw over 90 members of our community gather at the Crookwell Services Club on 30 May 2026, for a “Murder Mystery Night” which as a big hit amongst the crowd who had to solve the murder of local crime boss Vincent Moretti.
During the evening, the dinner order collection and meal service was undertaken by the TCF Youth Members and after dinner, the Youth Members each gave a short presentation focusing on their involvement in the program whilst practicing their public speaking skills.
On 16 Jun 2026, President Barry Kennedy presented Simon, Nioka and the Youth Members with a cheque for $4,585.36.
