Note: Buried in Lone Pine Cemetery, Gallipoli. According to a letter home to his mother, Hilary John Broderick transferred to 3rd Battalion 'in the field' and it would appear that the paperwork did not reach Pte Broderick's previous unit prior to his death, if in fact it was ever received as there is no notation to this effect in Pte Broderick's Service Record.

A later Board of Enquiry regarding Pte Broderick's status of Missing in Action revealed that he had gone to the trenches occupied by 3rd Battalion AIF near Lone Pine to visit a friend. Pte Broderick was bemoaning his lack of action and his friend arranged for Pte Broderick to be transferred to the 3rd Battalion AIF on or about 5 August 1915. Pte Broderick was listed as missing by his previous unit 1st Brigade Ammunition Column on 5 August 1915 however he was seen in the trenches with 3rd Battalion AIF soon after the commencement of the Battle of Lone Pine late in the afternoon of 6 August 1915 and was observed to having fallen to enemy fire as he left the trenches heading for the enemy trenches. Pte Broderick's name is listed as a member of the 3rd Battalion AIF who was killed in action in the Battalion's official history 'Randwick to Harcourt', first printed in mid 1930's.
