Elma sailed to Egypt on 4 Apr 1914 and served on the hospital ships Karoola and Nestor and in England. Elma resigned on 7 Jul 1917 due to marriage. Elma returned to Aust in early 1919 with her husband and first child, settled in Crookwell and had 3 more children.
